September 10 this year Astana will host a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Internal Affairs of the CIS countries. The interior ministers will be informed about the work on projects of State Programmes and joint measures to combat crime in 2014 - 2018 and the Programme of cooperation in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, psychotropic substances and their precursors trafficking and counteraction to drug addiction in 2014 - 2018 years. The Council of Ministers of the Interior (SMI) was established in 1996 to ensure the interoperability of the CIS countries in the fight against crime and policing. It is composed of representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. Representatives of Turkmenistan participate in certain meetings of SMI.
